Week 2 (12th to 16th April)

My first task of the week is to perform an Engineering Change Notification (ECN) on a drawing drawn by previous engineer. ECN is used to edit or change previous drawings to suit the current crane or customer's requirement.

After that i was given a task to summarize all the fasteners used in different winch assembly. It is a tedious task because there are about 20 different types of winch assembly used by Favelle Favco. I need to open each and every drawing for the different winch assembly and compare with the BOM in order to summarize the fasteners used.

On the second day, I got the opportunity to visit our manufacturing site behind our office with another Mechanical Engineer, Ms. Tan Xin Fu. It is so huge and i get to see different types of Offshore Cranes. She brought me to have a closer look on an 6/10K crane and shown me the winch assembly and powerpack of the crane. Back in the office, I was assigned to perform another ECN for Hydraulic Starter Spec. Below are pictures taken at our manufacturing site.

The remaining of the week, i was assigned to crane 1635 which is a 5/10K crane by Mr Teo. He allocate me the task of editing a few previous drawings to suit the customer's requirement for that crane.

Week 1 (5th to 10th April)

I reported duty on the 5th April at Favelle Favco Cranes (M) Sdn Bhd, Senawang, Negri Sembilan. On the first day of work, i reached about 7.45am and waited for 10 mins to meet my HR executive. After signing the Letter of Consent, she briefed me a little bit about the company and assigned me to the Mechanical Devision in Engineering Department. I was under the supervision of Mr. Teo Han Fui, the Section Head for Mechanical Devision.

I was briefed by one of the Mechanical Engineer, Mr. Jega about the company's infrastructure and procedure. For the first task, I was assigned to draw an Engine Throttle Bracket for a 6/10K Offshore Pedestal Crane using AutoCad software. Below is my drawing and my username is RON.

For the second day, I was assigned to do the Bill of Material (BOM) for Engine Throttle Bracket using the company's template in Microsoft Excel. Upon completing the task, I was given another task of drawing the Engine Throttle Assembly for the same crane.

For the third day, I continue with the drawing and did the BOM for Engine Throttle Assembly. The remaining of the days was used to edit my drawings and BOMs. I spent my time reading training manuals in my computer and also going through master drawings drawn by previous engineers. It's half day work on Saturday and I need to work every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.

In the first week of work, I managed to learned a lot about Favelle Favco and the range of cranes they are manufacturing. I even learned about the internal components of the crane such as winch, gearbox, slewring, powerpack etc. In Favelle Favco Senawang, they only concentrate in Offshore Pedestal Crane whereas in Australia, they have tower cranes as well.

There are two types of Offshore Pedestal Crane manufactured by Favelle Favco. The first one is the 10K series and the another one is theRL series. The difference is mainly on the Boom Structure, where RL series cranes are powered by a ramp cylinder and 1oK series cranes are powered by an luff winch.
